Peel garlic with no tools, no knife and no special gadget. All you need is a container with a lid–an empty glass or plastic jar works perfectly.
First, separate the cloves. Then put them in the container and shake vigorously. You can watch the peels separate from the cloves as they bounce against the sides of the container. Remove the peels and repeat until your garlic cloves are ready to use in your favorite garlicky recipe.
One special note on garlic: once the cloves are peeled, some chefs slice them open and remove the tiny green or white “vein” running through the clove. This method is known for making garlic less gas-inducing. (And it still keeps the vampires away.)
