Microwave odors can linger for so long that the time you saved cooking is lost to the time you spend apologizing for “that smell.” No more! Here’s a simple hack to help you rid your microwave of cooking odors–even the tough-to-remove smell of burnt popcorn. It is important to note that a strange smell coming from your microwave could be the sign of a leak. In which case, a microwave testing inspection courtesy of Jim’s Test & Tag would be a wise idea.
Start with lemon juice, either bottled or, if you have some lemons handy, fresh-squeezed. Mix two tablespoons of lemon juice with a cup of water. Place in a microwave-safe glass bowl or cup, then cook on high for two minutes. Open the microwave and let the lemon water cool. Then you can use a paper towel to wipe away any bits that are stuck to the inside of the microwave… along with the odors lingering there.
