You’re hungry, in a bit of a hurry (no time to go out for breakfast), and you decide to make an omelette. The thing is, your housemate has taken all the eggs out of their carton and stuck them in the refrigerator’s egg holder. Great–the eggs are organized but you have no idea how fresh they are. You could take a chance and hope you don’t get sick, but there’s a better option: here’s how to test eggs the easy way.
Fill up a bowl or large jar with water and gently set the eggs in it. The freshest eggs will sink to the bottom. It’s that simple! (You can use this for eggs when the “sell by” date has passed, too.) When the eggs float, they are past their prime and should thrown out.
