A rubber band can make the difference between a simple painting job and a total mess. First, open your paint can (you can use a screwdriver or a special tool for that). Wrap a large band (the thicker, the better) vertically around the paint can. Now, when you dip the paint brush in the can, use the rubber band to wipe away excess paint. It’s so simple, you’ll wonder why you didn’t think of it yourself!
When your painting job is complete, it’s time to remove the band. This is where things can get really messy. If you quickly cut it or snap it off the paint can, all that paint that didn’t spill is going to splatter everywhere. Instead, put a lid on it. Once the lid is on (loosely, at this point), cut the rubber band and slide it out from under the lid.
